Yuan holds steady as PBOC sets stronger parity, Shanghai stocks down




The yuan held steady Wednesday after the People's Bank of China set a stronger fixing for a fourth consecutive session which helped steady the market. It was last at 6.5797 against the U.S. dollar compared with Tuesday's official close of 6.5797. The PBOC set the yuan fixing at 6.5533 compared with 6.5548. Shares fell after industrial profits showed a widening decrease in December. The Shanghai Composite Index was last down 1.34% to 2,712.93 after rising 0.69% to 2,768.77. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index was last up 1.13% to
19,073.70.
